FSU student Omar Komaiha is nearing college graduation—and is
looking forward to beginning his career in the actuarial science field.
Originally from Sacramento, Komaiha spent his childhood in the community of
Parkland, Florida—where he lived his entire life and attended elementary
school, middle school and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He graduated high school in 2014 in the top 10
percent of his class.

Omar Komaiha: Tips for Making the Most of Your Internship
Over the course of his academic career, Actuarial Science
student Omar Komaiha has enjoyed the opportunity to complete two separate
internships: a summer internship/mentorship program through United Capital
Financial Advisors, LLC (May-Jul. 2018); and a summer actuarial internship at
Pension Services, Inc. (Jul. 2018).
Each experience was both eye-opening and rewarding for OmarKomaiha, who looks to utilize that experience—as well as his FSU education—to build
what promises to be a challenging and fulfilling career in the field.
Internships provide aspiring professionals like Komaiha an amazing
opportunity to gain experience and build connections in the professional world.
To make the most of such an opportunity, it’s important to:

Work to build trust and relationships throughout the organization.

Work hard.
Demonstrating a strong work ethic as an intern may be the key to opening up
opportunities at that organization in the future.

Omar Komaiha: Advantages of Investing in a Roth IRA
Omar
Pinacate Komaiha of Parkland is a senior at Florida State University who
understands the advantages of a Roth IRA for a college students and thinks a
Roth IRA is one of the best investments for young people in general and
explains why below.
- Since the contribution isn’t tax-deductible, it can be withdrawn from the account at any time, without either an income tax liability or an early withdrawal penalty.
- The money in a Roth IRA accumulates on a tax-deferred basis. This enables a faster accumulation of investment earnings in the account.
- A Roth IRA is a retirement account, so by starting while you are still in school, you have a big advantage when you get out and start working.
OmarPinacate Komaiha of Parkland thinks a Roth IRA is such a good investment for
college students that it is worth starting one if you are thinking about
investing in general.

Omar Komaiha: Actuarial Internship in Summer 2018
In 2018,
Omar Pinacate Komaiha of Parkland completed a month-long actuarial internship
with Pension Services, Inc. As a Pension Services intern, Omar Pinacate Komaiha
was responsible for completing a variety of tasks, including conducting
coverage ratio tests, nondiscretionary tests, cross-testing, and average benefits
tests using advanced excel spreadsheets and actuarial models and software.

Omar Komaiha: Who Volunteers
Omar Pinacate Komaiha of Parkland, Florida, is a Senior at
Florida State University, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2019.
He’s working toward his major in Actuarial Science with a minor in Business,
